Lawn Insect Control
We can apply insect control throughout the season depending on the insect pest causing damage. Without warning, insects can cause a great deal of damage to your lawn. Mattingly Lawn Care can treat your lawn for a wide range of surface and root feeding insects, as well as fleas and ticks. Examples of such insects are white grubs, lawn moths, sod web worms, chinch bugs, bluegrass bill bugs (adult and larvae), and army worms.
Note: Certain lawns have a special problem with white grubs. Mattingly Lawn Care can apply a preventive grub treatment in June or July that will protect your lawn for the entire summer and into late fall–essentially the entire grub season.
Grub Worm Prevention
We use a very effective insecticide to prevent damaging grub worms from invading your lawn–before problems ever arise! This insecticide is very effective at low concentrations which is great because it means lower amounts of pesticides being used on your lawn while achieving over 90% control of grub worms! We apply this treatment at the same time as your late spring application and it is effective for the entire season. There is an additional charge for this application.
Grub Worm Rescue Treatment
We use a special insecticide for control of white grubs once they’ve been discovered in your lawn that is effective in controlling grubs fast! Visible grub worm damage starts appearing in approximately mid-August and early September, although this can be delayed by dry soil conditions. Often, grub worms aren’t discovered until there has been significant damage. At this time we can apply an insecticide to stop feeding and begin the recovery process nearly immediately. Some lawns may need over-seeded or renovated (see below) to increase the density of the grass.
We can apply fungicides to help control diseases that occur in your lawn. Lawn diseases occur for many reasons and some lawns are more susceptible to disease than others. Some factors that influence disease presence include: soil type, thatch, watering practices (avoid evening watering!), species of grass, and mowing practices. Preventive disease treatments are most cost effective but knowing when to treat can become very difficult because of quickly changing weather conditions that prompt disease outbreak. If you have a disease problem, we will look at your lawn and identify the problem and which treatment is recommended. Some disease problems are difficult to treat because symptoms show up after the fungus has already damaged the lawn. The names of some common diseases problems are red thread, dollar spot, summer patch and brown patch.
Over-seeding introduces and develops new plants and thickens existing lawns. Mattingly Lawn Care uses only the very best grass seed selected for lawns in central Indiana and your lawn specifically. We can select the perfect grass seed for the intended look and use of your lawn. The best results are achieved when performed immediately after core aerating the lawn. Much of our core aerating and over-seeding occurs in late summer and early fall. (August 15 – September 15 — Prime time for seeding a lawn in Central Indiana!)
Slice Seeding & Lawn Renovation
Slice seeding is a method of seedbed preparation that uses a slice seeding machine to cut the seed into tiny grooves in the soil. The slice seeder, with its fixed blades, works the seed into the top ¼ to ½ inch of soil. Slice seeding works well to fill in a thin lawn or start a new lawn from scratch. Renovation describes corrective procedures to restore beauty to an old lawn without removing all of the sod. It can be as simple as over-seeding a thin turf area or can include power raking and core aeration if thatch is greater than ½ inch or the soil is compacted. Our lawn renovation approach is very aggressive and can make an average lawn look absolutely amazing! We have had some outstanding results from slice seeding–especially when performed in late summer. We can consult you on what’s best for your lawn.
Flea and Tick
Environmental conditions, proximity to woods, open fields, wildlife and pets (yours and your neighbors) near your home can lead to an infestation of these pesky and potentially harmful critters. The good news is that we have a treatment programs that will help rid your lawn of fleas and ticks. We can help keep fleas and ticks away from your family by working together to develop a solid plan for their control. Prompt treatment as soon as a problem is noticed will prevent the invaders from migrating to inside living spaces. Whatever your flea and tick control needs, please feel free to call us for more information or contact us here.
We use soil testing to determine the pH of the soil and the levels of the primary nutrients available for turf grass to use. We take numerous samples of soil throughout your lawn and send them to a professional soil testing lab. The results are analyzed according the grass type and use of your lawn. Sample testing usually takes about week and results can be analyzed and emailed to you; we can then customize a program that will give your lawn all the nutrients it needs to thrive and be healthy. Soil testing should be done every two years or as problems are suspected.
